Great Fall Things to Do in Niagara
Nature, Hiking & Scenic Trails
-
Niagara Glen Nature Reserve — Hikes through the gorge with lovely autumn colours + views of the river & whirlpool.
-
Niagara River Recreation Trail — A paved trail (~53 km long) that gives beautiful vistas, especially as leaves change.
-
The Benchlands area (Jordan, Beamsville, Vineland, etc.) — Small towns, vineyards, quiet roads, and trails where fall colours are especially vivid.
-
Bruce Trail segments in the Niagara region — For someone wanting more rugged / longer hikes. Parts of it are lesser known and quieter. (e.g. between Queenston Heights, parts behind Brock U., etc.)
Seasonal Food, Drink & Harvest Experiences
-
Apple orchards — Pick your own apples; many farms also offer cider, pies, fall treats. A couple of our favourites include Parkway Orchards in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Windward Farms in Beamsville.
-
Farmer’s Markets — Great for getting seasonal produce (pumpkins, squash, local crafts).
-
Wineries & wine trails — Fall is grape harvesting season. Wineries are especially beautiful this time of year, and many run harvest-events.
-
Seasonal craft beers — Many local breweries release fall ales with pumpkin, spices, or flavours that reflect the harvest season.
Events & Festivals
-
Fall Festival at Outlet Collection Niagara - Courtyard events: hay maze, pumpkin games, local vendors.
-
Boo at the Zoo - a family favourite at Safari Niagara with costumes, treats, and fun for all ages.
Hidden & Local Gem Ideas
-
Wainfleet Bog — For a more secluded walk; marshy, quieter; good if you don’t mind rougher terrain.
-
St. John's Conservation Area in Fonthill — A peaceful trail with ponds. Less crowded, especially on weekday afternoons.
-
Woodend Conservation Area — Another less busy place for a quiet walk.
-
Malcolmson Eco Park, Nicholson Trail — Good shorter hikes; scenic, especially in fall.
Cozy Seasonal Activities
-
Visit farm stands and pick up seasonal décor: pumpkins, gourds, fall wreaths.
-
Find a local café with a view (vineyards or overlooking the river) and enjoy a warm drink with autumn ambiance.
-
Do a scenic drive through the region, especially areas with vineyards + countryside to take in colour changes.
Happy Fall Y'all!
